We believe that baptism is an act of obedience to the teachings of Jesus. It is a special symbol that should follow and give testimony of the decision to trust Him for salvation. When we are baptized, we declare to all that see or hear about it that we are not ashamed of the decision we have made. Baptism symbolizes the change that knowing Jesus brings to us, and demonstrates our commitment to obey and follow Him whatever the cost.
On the day the Brethren church was started, Alexander Mack and the believers with him baptized each other by triune immersion. Since that day our church has continued to practice baptism by triune immersion for those who believe and follow God. Baptism by triune immersion involves three separate immersions into the water as part of the one baptismal act - in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe the Bible teaches this method of baptizing, and church history also supports it. (Matthew 28:19)
Prior to baptism here at Valley Grace each candidate for baptism must meet with one of our pastors or Deacons. If you are interested in taking part in an upcoming baptism service, please contact the Church Office.
